Cello Chest Pad

Offered in 3 thicknesses, this extremely lightweight support pad helps tall cellists portion their instrument more comfortably, allowing greater freedom for bowing and vibrato. Because the form-fitting pad only contacts the instrument on an edge and doesn’t press against the back, it is non-muting. The rubber band is optional — Long time user John Haines-Eitzen finds that the pad forms itself to the edge of the cello, and doesn’t require the rubber band, but new users might like it initially. The zippered pouch allows users to add additional bean bag foam balls to achieve the desired comfort and firmness. The pad ties with a soft cotton cord under the cello’s neck which doesn’t interfere with shifting or vibrato. These are made to order by a professional upholsterer in Brooktondale, New York, so please allow approximately 2-3 weeks of lead time.
