DOUBLE BASS (AND CELLO) ADJUSTABLE SADDLE ENDPIN MOUNT INSTALLATION VIDEO
Installation overview for our trademark Saddle Rider Double Bass Endpin Mount with optional adjustable height saddle extension. The installation process is the same for our smaller cello model.
BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO, please read these UPDATED KNOT INSTRUCTIONS for installing the interior nut with mounts that have the new style of anti-vibration fitting (see photos below):
Step 1: Bend a piece of heavy gauge fishing line and insert upward through one of the eyelets
Step 2: Insert downward through the opposite eyelet
Step 3: Insert ends through the loop downward as shown
Next, proceed with installation instructions as shown in the video above. This knot centers the nut and pulls it into the end block without the lines getting tangled in the new style of anti-vibration fitting. Immediately after engaging the threads of the nut to the mount, remove the fishing line before tightening the nut. To do this, bend a small hook in a piece of the installation wire and pull out the looped fishing line. Cut one side of the looped filament, allowing it to easily be pulled out of the instrument.
“NEW” WAY TO TIE A KEVLAR TAILGUT KNOT
The above link shoes a “shoelace method” that is a little radical, but John has had great success with it in many concerts and recording sessions — simply put, it’s a shoelace tied correctly (square knot as opposed to granny knot) with various techniques for shoring up the loose ends for future untying or repositioning. (TIP: Ignore the BETA plastic C in the instructions. It’s unnecessary and has been known to rattle against the tailpiece.). This knotgets very tight when the tension is applied and doesn’t slip or stretch, but is easier to untie when adjustment is desired. The traditional method at the link below takes longer to settle in because there is more initial slack in the knot. It’s also harder to tie accurately the first time for the same reason.
